Wow, I can just imagine how interested the Russian and Chinese
governments must be in the doings of a retired vendor of consumer grade
AV gear. Stick with that iPhone, you're much safer, although heaven
knows what Apple is doing with the information in those 1845 calls a day.

What a load of nonsense, they don't analyse what's sent, and admit
that apps on both phones do contact servers for companies like
Google that harvest user data, so the apps on the Apple phone might
just hoard more data and send it in one big "contact" instead of
lots of little ones. Either way the result is the same.

"If an app is contacting a server located in a country like Russia
or China, that could mean your data is accessible to authorities of
other bodies in those nations. Once the data has landed in another
country, it can potentially come under the purview of that state."

Unless you foresee a visit to or imminent invasion from those
contries, I don't see how that's much of a concern to anyone in
Australia. It's all the better that those "contacts" aren't
collected by agencies that actually do have power in this country
actually.

Bitdefender is good. I've used it on PC's but not mobiles.

By the Russian or Chinese governments? Seems unlikely, but if the
apps are sneeking ID information off to unintended people then it's
a serious concern regardless of where the data immediately goes. I
don't think the article is claiming that sort of data is being
sent, just typical user analytics info.

They're 'comparing' Android and iOS *apps*, not the *OSs* themselves.

So, as with many/most 'news' articles, the headline doesn't cover the
content and vice versa.

And - except for a few named examples - there's no indication that
they tested the *same* apps on Android and iOS.

And when they test the same apps on both platforms, they imply that
they contact different servers and at different rates. Huh?

All in all, the usual FUD and urban legends.

The only take from the article, which *they* do not say: Pick your
apps carefully, on *either* platform.

That's not accurate. He never checked what the phones do before
any apps are installed.

And he has no idea what the traffic is actually doing.

Not even possible when you have no way of knowing what the
traffic is actually doing.

Google play seems where you get Android app's from. many if not most
come with malware usually with the advertising that comes with them.
A good malware virus for *Android* mobiles is needed.
Were recommended by SpyHunter(my WIN10 scanner) as they go not make a
scanner for Android they recommended BitDefender.
I find BitDefender cheap yearly fee for basic very good

everything on google play store is virus and malware free, or so they

Although now a free type from NSW transport (I think) is avaiable,
TripView
https://transportnsw.info/apps/tripview
Has ALL buses track so I know within a minute the bus arrives outside
my place. You can also add trains if you wish.
I also paid for "Ultimate EMF Detector" App

users over malware threat that can control phone, access bank details
New Android malware ‘poses a significant threat to the banking
industry’.Android users are being warned of a new type of malware
connected to the Chrome internet browsing app, which has the potential
to take control of users’ phones and potentially access banking
information.
The new malware, named Brokewell, reportedly disguises itself as an
update for Chrome.
Once downloaded, it can allow cybercriminals to access sensitive
personal data.
