I guess it depends how far you have to walk to the bins whether that's an
advantage over once a week collection and having to keep the bins (garbage
and recycle) in the garage as I do. The good news for me is it's a short
walk. The bad news is the garbage sometimes stinks up the garage.

When I first moved here (2000) we put our garbage bags in the street on
collection day. No bins. Our wild animals (mostly coyotes and birds) loved
that. As you can imagine the plastic bags didn't put up much of a
defense... 8-O

For the OT police I should mention that this highly technical post is not
garbage and was written on an Android device using an Android newsreader.
Unless you can say the same please don't add more garbage...
