I agree they do care about what they're building and have a
passion for it. Even though these networks have been around
for a while they're really in early stages of testing. Alpha
if you will. The time to make it pretty is after you make it
work and to make it work you need users who understand it.

so what you are basically saying is that freenet is still alpha status ?
than my conclusion is that either the problem they try to solve is too complex, or they are understaffed by far (which i think i have read before somewhere).
i respect all the effort put in to this, but i hope it will not end as vaporware one day. in that case the devs should focused on something else (like i2p or tor).

I haven't looked at Syndie in a while. The few times I've installed and
messed around with it, I found very little content, and struggled a bit
with the interface.

Maybe there is more now, or I just couldn't find stuff, but it's a shame
as I think Syndie is a good idea.

not sure how much content there is today, or how many users.
but i want to find out.

a rewrite of syndie is apparently planned, maybe this will
revitalize the project (especially if the gui is becoming
more usable).
