I'm not fan of the idea but I can see some practical uses for driver
less vehicles such as for disabled or blind people.
As for their safety I think that they have a long way to go before they
are 100% trustworthy.
Interesting that the promoters of driver less cars think that the
problem is human drivers, if all vehicles were computer controlled they
think that there would be almost no accidents.

It's not what they 'think', it's what they know. If you think real hard
(I know it will hurt but try) even you might be able to think of
industries where computer control and automation have vastly improved
safety and reduced incidents exactly because the human element has been
reduced or removed.

Just think, if they'd had *machine intelligence* behind the wheel a
couple of decades ago, Darren might not be a cripple today. Certainly
Darren is the epitome of flaws in the human element, grandiosity prime
among them.
